Bell Park

Newly voted "Best Picnic Spot" by the Houston Press, Bell Park is a lovely, tiny park in the Montrose area/Museum District.

Bell Park is considerably less than a city block in size, and bounded by city streets on three sides, including Montrose.  However, the traffic noise isn't quite as bad as you'd expect once you get a few feet into the park, due to all the trees.

The park features several walkways, two quaint wooden bridges over a man-made stream with a fountain and a tiny waterfall, a good climbing tree, lots of benches, and a somewhat creepy statue of Christopher Columbus donated by the Italian-American Association, which has a building across the street.

Too small to effectively serve as a place to go jogging or exercise your dogs, it's really just perfectly suited to sitting and relaxing or chatting with friends.  It's also usually fairly deserted.

The pleasant Ernie's on Banks is just across the street to the north, when you're ready for A/C and cold drinks again.
